Sailing in the Mediterranean Episode 100 Documentation vs Registration

Play

In this episode I talk to our resident Admiralty law expert John Fulweiler and we discuss the possible ways you might choose to register or document your boat.  If you have questions for John drop me a note and perhaps he will answer them in future episodes.  John’s website is http://www.saltwaterlaw.com/

After the podcast was released I received this email from a listener:

Hey Franz,

I am listening to your podcast about US documentation and I think there should be a correction about the “built in the US” requirement you discussed. I think the official line is that:

‘Evidence that a vessel was built in the U.S. is required for a vessel which is to be used in the fisheries or coastwise trade’

My Beneteau 50, used for recreation,  was built in France but is a US Documented vessel. I think the owner being a US citizen is the important issue.

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Love the show, as always!

Regards, Dan.
